Internal quality reviews

The RCSI system of ‘rolling' internal reviews commenced in January 2011. Academic units (at the level of School or Faculty) and non-academic units (administrative support functions) will be subject to review on six-year cycles. In all cases, these reviews follow the widely accepted format of:

  • Preparation of a Self Assessment report (SAR) by the unit under review.
  • A site-visit of 2-3 days duration by a Peer Review Group (PRG) comprising three external and one internal members.
  • Submission of a formal report by the PRG.
  • Development of a Quality Improvement Plan in response to the report.

During 2018, internal reviews of the School of Postgraduate Studies, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Department of Surgical Affairs, Conference and Events Department, Health Professions Education Centre are in progress.  The Review of the School of Postgraduate Studies will commence Cycle II of the internal review process in RCSI.

For all such internal reviews, the PRG Report and corresponding quality improvement plan will be made available via these pages. It is standard practice in RCSI, as in all Irish higher-education institutions, that self assessment reports prepared in the course of internal and/or institutional reviews are regarded as highly confidential and commercially sensitive documents that are never released into the public domain.
