COSECSA - A college without walls

Established in 1999, COSECSA (the College of East, Central and Southern Africa) has grown to become the largest surgical training body in Sub-Saharan Africa.

COSECSA is a non-profit professional body whose mission is to promote excellence in surgical care, training and research. COSECSA currently has 12 member countries thus reaching a population of over 350 million people. It is headquartered in Tanzania.

With the support of RCSI, COSECSA has developed and expanded its decentralised surgical training programme. Trainees undertake the COSECSA programme in one of the 100+ accredited hospitals in the region, complete academic requirements online and attend occasional national and regional workshops. COSECSA provides a common examination and an internationally recognised surgical qualification at Membership and Fellowship level.
