How to submit a RCSI Research Ethics Committee application

Relevant research projects commencing from June 1st 1999 are required to have ethical approval through the RCSI Research Ethics Committee.

All new applications must be submitted online to the RCSI Research Ethics Committee (REC). The REC meets to review projects bimonthly. Please visit meetings and deadlines for dates.

Please read the information below very carefully before submitting an application.

  • Do you have documented permission to do this research if the work is to be carried out in another institution/body? Evidence of permission will be required with this application.
  • It is essential that the online application form is completed fully, all relevant questions answered and all associated documentation uploaded with the application if the study is to receive proper review by the REC.
  • Refer to the accompanying Guidance Notes and FAQ when completing the form/and complete the checklist before sending the form.

Procedure for completing an application

  • Log on to the REC online system
  • This online system allows you to fill in and submit your applications electronically
  • Please ensure that you complete all sections of the online form and upload all of the supporting documents (readable formats of PDF only) for your application to avoid unnecessary delays in the review of your application.
  • One hard copy of the original signature sheet only must also be sent to REC, The Research Office, 121 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2.
