Surgical Fellowships and Awards
The College is committed to encouraging the acquisition of additional training and skills outside the structured programmes of the College and, to this end, provides a range of scholarships and grants in postgraduate surgery to assist surgeons-in-training and recently-appointed consultant surgeons, to gain additional expertise in centres of excellence overseas.
*Applicants must be Fellows or Members of RCSI who are in good standing
The following fellowships and awards are available:
RCSI Ethicon Travel Grants
Ranging in value from a minimum of €1,000 each (higher amounts at the discretion of the Selection Board), grants are available to trainees at an advanced stage of higher surgical training or who have completed surgical training in the RCSI within the previous two years.
Dr Richard Steevens Scholarship
Applications for the Dr Richard Steevens Scholarship 2017 for SpR training overseas are now closed. Information on the 2018 Dr Richard Steevens Scholarship will be available in the coming months.
RCSI Colles Travelling Fellowship in Surgery
Open to higher surgical trainees in Ireland. The fellowship must be full-time and tenable for one year. The value is up to a maximum of €20,000 plus a College Medal. Additional travelling grants up to a maximum value of €30,00 may also be awarded to either the fellowship winner and/or other worthy candidates.
RCSI-Anthony Walsh/Ipsen Travelling Fellowship in Urology
The value of this award is €6,000 to enable a higher surgical trainee in urology, to attend a meeting, or to visit a centre of urological excellence.
The Millin Lecture
The 40th Millin Lecture will take place in the RCSI in November 2017. This is a prestigious award and open to all the surgical specialties. Fellows of the College are invited to nominate candidates.
Section of Coloproctology, The Royal Society of Medicine
The Council of the Section of Coloproctology, Royal Society of Medicine, has made available an Irish travelling fellowship to enable a non-consultant hospital doctor, who is a Fellow or Member of RCSI in good standing, to attend the annual (overseas) meeting of the Section.
The RCSI/IITOS Travelling Fellowship
This Fellowship is open to Fellows and Members of RCSI who are in their final year of the RCSI Higher Specialist Training programme in trauma and orthopaedic surgery.
The Rowan Nicks United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland Fellowship
The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons invites suitable applicants to apply for the Rowan Nicks United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland Fellowship. Details for 2017 will be available soon.
American College of Surgeons - International Guest Scholarships
The American College of Surgeons invites applications for its International Guest Scholarships 2016. Details for 2017 will be available soon.
The Price Thomas Travelling Fellowship
This prestigious bursary is open to surgical trainees at ST7 or more senior and to consultants within 10 years of appointment. Details for 2017 will be available soon.
