Anne Hickey


Anne Hickey is Head of the Division of Population Health Sciences at RCSI and the Head of the Department of Psychology. She is involved in coordinating and teaching health psychology to health professionals at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including medical, physiotherapy and pharmacy students.

Anne has extensive experience in research in healthcare, particularly in the area of stroke and stroke rehabilitation, development of complex interventions for clinical settings, and related health services challenges. Anne has considerable expertise in the area of method development, including development of the Stroke Awareness Questionnaire (SAQ) and, as part of a research team, developed the Ageing Perceptions Questionnaire (APQ) and the Schedule for the Evaluation of Individual Quality of Life (SEIQoL), an individualised measure of quality of life that has received international acclaim.

Anne is the RCSI Director of the SPHeRE Programme, one of three national co-Directors, and was lead Director at the commencement of the programme (2013-2015). She has previously served as Chair of the Division of Health Psychology of the Psychological Society of Ireland,Chair of the Scientific Affairs Board of the Psychological Society of Ireland, and as a member of the Council of the Psychological Society of Ireland.
