Borrowing

 

Borrowing

  • Most items are available for borrowing
  • Some high demand items are available on weekly or overnight loan only
  • Certain items cannot be borrowed and must be consulted in the Library
  • You may borrow only on presentation of a valid ID card
  • Books should be returned to Library staff or to the Book Return Box, so that the loan may be cancelled from your account.
  • Books may be returned to either Library
  • You may not borrow if fines of €5 or over are outstanding on your Library account


Registration

  • Before you can borrow you must be registered with the Library.
  • RCSI undergraduate and postgraduate students are automatically registered as part of the general College registration process
  • All others must register separately with the Library
  • ID cards are not transferable and lost cards must be replaced immediately - there is a charge for replacement cards.

Recalls & Overdues

  • Fines are charged for overdue books: 50c per day
  • Books may be recalled before the date due, if they are requested by another member and therefore may not be renewed

 

Renewals & Holds

  • To renew and place holds, you will need a Library password. To get your password enquire at the Service Desks or email library@rcsi.ie 
  • You may renew a book if it has not been requested by another member
  • Books may be renewed four times, then returned or re-issued in the Library
  • You may not renew books if fines of €5 or over are outstanding on your Library account
  • You may place a hold on a book which is already on loan
  • You can request a book to be brought from Beaumont to Mercer or vice versa by placing a hold on it
  • Renew and place holds via the Library catalogue  
  • You may renew your books by phone (402 2407 - Mercer Library or 809 2531 - Beaumont Hospital), by email or in person
     


Replacement of Lost Books

You are responsible for a book borrowed in your name until it has been returned to the library and the loan record has been cancelled. If you lose a book, or if it is damaged, you will be charged for its replacement
