Membership/Visitor Access

RCSI is a private institution and library facilities and services are only available to RCSI registered students and staff with ID cards.  

Beaumont Hospital
Beaumont Hospital staff should apply for membership at the RCSI Library, Beaumont Hospital.
Note: currently Beaumont Hospital Staff cannot access 26 York Street without an RCSI ID card. Updates to this policy will be listed here as soon as they are available. 

Graduates of the RCSI Schools, Members, Fellows and Associates of the RCSI may apply for registration to access library facilities and consult printed material on a reference basis in the library. Printing and photocopying services are available using your own laptop or mobile device over the wireless network. See Printing and IT. Alumni shoudl contact and Fellows/Members should contact, to initiate the process of application for an access card.  

Academic access schemes
RCSI is a member of the ALCID and SCONUL reciprocal access schemes. Visitors shoudl email prior to their visit. 

*** Please note that from Saturday 27th October 2018 to Wednesday 2nd January 2019 SCONUL and ALCID card holders will not be permitted access the RCSI Library, 26 York Street due to the College examination period.  This is put in place in an effort to minimise pressure on our study space and resources during this very busy time for our students. Note that the Library is closed to SCONUL and ALCID visitors during the Christmas period, from 23 Dec 2018 to 1 Jan 2019 inclusive. 

  • ALCID is a co-operative arrangement among the major Irish academic libraries, enabling full-time academic staff or students studying for higher degrees (Masters, PhD) to access other libraries.
  • SCONUL is a co-operative arrangement among most of the major Irish and UK academic libraries, enabling full-time academic staff or researchers to access and borrow from other libraries.  Further details and a list of the participating libraries is available from the SCONUL website.  RCSI is a Band A member.

Note: outside Information Point hours, access to 26 York Street is via RCSI staff/student ID card only.
