Medical Validation Ireland

Established in 2013, Medical Validation Ireland (MVI) is an RCSI-led consortium of the seven postgraduate medical and dental training bodies in Ireland:
  • College of Anaesthetists
  • College of Psychiatry
  • Faculty of Dentistry
  • Faculty of Radiology
  • Irish College of General Practitioners
  • Royal College of Physicians of Ireland
  • Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland

Each of these training bodies is accredited to provide specialty training in Ireland and to certify trainees who have completed training.

MVI training bodies are recognised internationally as leaders in postgraduate medical training and in the development/maintenance of professional standards. MVI is built upon the combined 750 years of experience of these bodies and brings together more than 150 expert assessors covering all recognised specialties.

MVI offers a range of bespoke assessment, accreditation and consultancy services that includes:

1. Professional external appraisal of clinicians:

  • Baseline assessment: Benchmarking the qualifications and training of a clinician to an international standard, assessing their individuals’ clinical practice and capturing multisource feedback to determine if they are suitably qualified and keeping up-to-date to practice in their given specialty.
  • Annual review: Supporting a culture of continuous professional development and quality improvement.
  • Cyclical re-validation assessment: Ongoing assessment to ensure clinicians continue to keep up-to-date and are fit to practice in their given specialty.

2. Bespoke multisource feedback programmes for healthcare professionals and patient surveys.

3. Accreditation of medical teaching and training sites.

4. Maintenance of professional standards.

5. Management of major change initiatives in healthcare environments.
