Records Management

Awareness of the importance of records has grown in recent years, with an increasing emphasis on accountability and the introduction of legislation such as Freedom of Information and Data Protection.

Apart from public accountability, every organisation has a need to conduct itself in an efficient and organised manner, so that it can successfully carry out its functions and activities. Access to relevant information is central to the ability of any organisation to meet the needs of its stakeholders.

RCSI has adopted a Records Management Policy which governs the creation, use, management and disposition of the College's records. Implementation of the policy is facilitated by a set of standard operating procedures and guidelines, including standard naming conventions, best practice guidelines and records retention and disposal policies.

The Records Manager works with staff in relevant departments to ensure that records are created and managed in a manner that ensures legal compliance but alos increases accessibility, facilitates retrieval, saves on staff time and storage costs and ensures adequate protection for confidential information.

RCSI staff can access all records management policies and procedures, together with regular updates here.
